    Domestic Violence

    Being involved in a domestic violence case can cause extreme anxiety.  There are usually other related issues that often give rise to domestic violence matters such as custody disputes, a divorce, or even a bad break-up.  An ongoing strained relationship with a friend or family member can also open the door to a domestic violence occurrence.  If you have been charged in a domestic violence case in DC, we are here to help.

    We also handle civil Protection orders (CPO) in DC for both petitioners and respondents.  It’s never a good idea to show up to a CPO trial without a lawyer.  If your opponent has a lawyer, so should you!  Even if your opponent does not have a lawyer, you have a greater advantage over your opponent when you are represented by counsel.

    Civil protection orders cover three broad categories of individuals:

    1. Intimate Partner Violence- people who are currently or previously married, in a domestic partnership, or in a romantic, dating or sexual relationship;
    2. Intrafamily Violence- people who are related by blood, adoption, legal custody, marriage; domestic partnership, or people who share a child;
    3. Interpersonal Violence- people who share a mutual residence, or people who are presently and previously married, in a domestic partnership, separated, divorced, or presently and previously in a romantic, dating or sexual relationship.

    To initiate a CPO there has to be an allegation that a crime was committed or threatened to be committed by an individual falling within one of these three categories.  If a CPO is entered against you, it can have serious consequences on various areas of your life including immigration consequences and child custody issues.  If you were served with a temporary protection order or if you are the petitioner seeking a protection order, contact us to ensure that you get the best possible outcome.
